Boxing Day

December 26, 2018
So, the twelve summoned the congregation of the disciples and said, “It is not desirable for us to neglect the word of God in order to serve tables. But select from among you, brethren seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task; but we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”- ACTS 6:2-4

In the United Kingdom, the day after Christmas is called “Boxing Day.” There are many theories about the holiday’s origin, but all of them involve the giving of gifts to less fortunate people.

The coming of Jesus Christ results in actions that bless needy people. There is a change in heart in the world. Jesus Christ motivates unparalleled generosity, and He moves human beings to give their hearts as servants to distribute His blessed bounty. Some individuals in churches will be selected for the office deacons, which means “servant.” But all Christ followers are to have a servant’s heart in the spirit of their Master who said, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life a ransom for many” (MARK 10:45). Boxing Day is the logical sequel to Christmas.
