Christ’s image

June 15, 2019
"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come." - 2 CORINTHIANS 5:17

Stephen Hawking, the British physicist, said humanity is learning how the universe began. Scientist Robert Jastrow wrote that scholars arriving on that peak of knowledge would find theologians sitting there centuries. The Bible describes how the world was created, and how people are created anew in and by Christ.

Genesis says all was in darkness until God spoke light into being. That’s the moment of salvation for the individual. Then, Genesis reports, the Holy Spirit “brooded” over the “deep,” nurturing life. For the person in Christ, this is growth in Christ’s image. God promises that the creative event of the new birth leads to the creative process of becoming a truly new creation in Christ Jesus.
