Clean and Pure

Therefore, if a man cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.
2 Timothy 2:21

This verse contains some valuable information about what it takes to be a vessel God can use. First of all, we have to have the right negatives in our lives, those “thou shalt not” commands. We need to be able to stand and say, “No. I’ll not do that.” But, by the same token, our lives cannot be known by negatives alone. There must be positives, and there must be the pursuit of righteousness, of love, and of faith. The vessel described in this verse is clean and pure, which means there must be confession of sin so that God can cleanse us. And – here is an important reminder for all of us: in order for God to use it, the vessel must be empty.

When we fill our lives with too many good things, God cannot fill us with those things that are best. Commit to becoming a vessel that is set apart for God, and one that is ready for Him to fill and use for His glory.
