Heart prayers

July 30, 2018
HEAR a just cause, O LORD, give heed to my cry; give ear to my prayer, which is not from deceitful lips. Let my judgment come forth from Thy presence; let thine eyes look with equity. Thou hast tried my heart; Thou hast visited me by night; Thou hast tested me and dost find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress. - PSALM 17:1-3

Sometimes prayers arise from untested hearts and the mouth transgresses, resulting in deceit from the lips. A family sat down for Sunday dinner. “O God,” prayed the daddy, “thank you for our church and pastor and all our blessings, amen.” During the meal the children listened as the man conversed with his wife, complaining and criticizing everything for which he had just thanked God, from his pastor to his boss at work.
“Daddy,” his small daughter interrupted, “did God hear you when you prayed a few minutes ago?” The dad replied, “Yes, of course.” The little girl showed confusion.

“Did He also hear what you were just praying when you were talking to Mommy?” Now the daddy was confused.

“Uh, I guess so.”

“Then which prayer did God believe?”

The lips pray deceitfully when their words contradict the heart.

TODAY’S FOCUS
Consider that your speech may contradict your prayers. Repent and ask God to help you always to be consistent in speaking to others what you speak to Him.
