When I was a child, our family doctor made house calls. I can still picture Dr. Gatlin entering my room with his black bag. He would first listen to my heart and then take a wooden tongue depressor, tell me to open wide, stick out my tongue and say “Aaaah.” Not only does the tongue help reveal our physical ailments, it also helps diagnose our spiritual condition. That’s because the tongue is a messenger of the heart and can only deliver the message it is given.
Jesus said, “the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.” In fact, nothing reveals what’s in our hearts as accurately as our tongues. So open wide and say
“Aaaah.” What is your tongue saying about the condition of your heart?
