The devolution of the heart

July 15, 2018
For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. - ROMANS 1:21-23

Evolution is the religion of the secularized world. For many, it is holy writ, not to be questioned. Utopians believe the path of the race has been ever upward, physically, culturally and spiritually. Actually, in a fallen world, devolution is the trend. Since the fall, things have been caught in the vortex of spiritual gravity, sinking lower and lower.

Spiritual evolutionists used to teach that primitive people were animists who worshipped multiple objects in nature, but they evolved to a higher state, monotheism, the worship of one God. Recent studies in anthropology, however, have turned spiritual evolution on its head.

Research shows humanity began with the high worship of one God and has devolved into idolatry. Hinduism has millions of “deities,” and sophisticated western “spirituality” has also plummeted into polytheism, the worship of “many gods,” especially in occultism and New Age religion. When a fallen human being returns to the worship of the true and living God, the devolution of the heart halts and Christ lifts it upward!

TODAY’S FOCUS
Ask the Father to deal with the idolatry of your heart. Allow the Holy Spirit to reveal your multiple “ultimate” allegiances and Christ to set you free from them.
