The envious heart

March 18, 2018
Do not let your heart envy sinners, but live in the fear of the LORD always.  -PROVERBS 23:17
A small town merchant was jealous of his competitor. A genie popped up before him. “Whatever you ask I will do for you, and double for the man you envy so much.”

“Then make me blind in one eye,” said the envious merchant.

Envy is an energy consumer. It eats you up, devouring passion and zeal. Invest your creative juices in envy and there’s less left to spark you to success. Envy also releases emotional and mental toxins into your spiritual bloodstream. Your life is polluted so much you will even accept injury to yourself if it can be multiplied against those of whom you’re jealous.

The fear of the Lord is the cure of the envious heart. One of the results if reverencing the Lord is respecting His sovereignty. Freedom from envy comes from worshipping God as the Absolute One Who has the right to send His refreshing rain on the unrighteous as well as the righteous (Matthew 5:45).

TODAY’S FOCUS
Consider those you envy. Thank God for His blessing on their lives, and ask Him to bless them even more!
