The Heart’s Support System

April 20, 2018
He causes the grass to grow for the cattle, and vegetation for the labor of man, so that he may bring forth food from the earth and wine which makes man’s heart glad, so that he may make his face glisten with oil and food which sustains man’s heart. – PSALM 104:14-15

God has put everything on the earth essential for total heart health, and it’s tragic when we use His good gifts to weaken the heart. The elements God has placed in the world are to be used to support good heart health, not destroy it.

A man in our church got a new heart. His old thumper was barely fluttering because of disease. The man was pale, bent with weakness and struggled to breathe. Then he got his new heart, and his whole body showed the benefit. Vitality returned, along with joy and confidence. Suppose the man with the new heart began eating and drinking in excess. Imagine that he became a couch potato. It would be as if he had spurned the opportunity for a new life. Knowing my friend, such would be unimaginable.

Improper diet, alcohol and drug abuse and a lazy lifestyle constitute a perversion of God’s good gifts and misappropriation of His love, which gave us the gifts in the first place. For the sake of good health, see the earth’s bounty as God’s grace for wholesome living.

Today’s Focus
Thank God for His good gifts, and ask Him for the wisdom to use them wisely to build and support health, not destroy it.
