The loving cup

July 26, 2018
…so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith … that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. - EPHESIANS 3:17, 19

“My heart’s a loving cup,” a friend tells his kids.

“Daddy, how’s your loving cup?” his little daughter asks.

“Almost empty,” he replies. She begins hugging him, and he says, “It’s getting fuller and fuller!” Finally he shouts, “My loving cup is full again!”

There are people who drain our cups. Spend time with them and you are depleted. Thank God for the “filling people.” Family members should be fillers of one another, not drainers. Relationships in the church ought to fill us, not empty us.

Ultimately, it is Jesus Christ Himself who fills us to the top. Once, healing a woman, the Bible says He felt the power flowing out of Him. (MATTHEW 5:30) But Jesus knew how to keep His “loving cup” full. Daily, He communed with the Father, getting energized for the works of compassion ahead. Your “loving cup” gets drained every day, too, so go daily to the Lord, and say, “fill‘er up!”

TODAY’S FOCUS
Are you a “drainer” or a “filler”? Ask God to help you be the kind of person who pours love and encouragement into others.
