Under the Spreading Banyan Tree

May 18, 2018
"I will punish the fruit of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria and the pomp of his haughtiness” … Therefore the Lord, the GOD of hosts, will send a wasting disease among his stout warriors; And under his glory a fire will be kindled like a burning flame. -Isaiah 10:12, 16
Some people have such arrogant, dominant hearts that everything beneath them is wasted away.

In the lovely town of Lahaina, on the Hawaiian island of Maui, there is a banyan tree that covers a city block. Banyan trees grow a limb that spreads, gets heavy, and drops a root directly into the ground. That root becomes another tree, which spreads out more limbs that send down more roots, until finally from one tree there are many dominating the whole landscape.

Nothing grows under a big banyan tree. It shuts out all the light and consumes all the nutrition.

Haughty and arrogant hearts stifle the growth of others. The arrogance of the King of Assyria was in his belief he could dominate and control everyone else. His haughtiness made him believe he was in charge of everything. A person with such a heart cannot allow others to succeed or have the spotlight.

Do other people grow under your spiritual heart, or do they shrivel?

TODAY’S HEART FOCUS
Allow the Holy Spirit to bring to your mind those nestled under your “heart.” Ask the Father to grant that all those you lead, whether spouse, children or work associates, will grow under your “heart.”
