When the lights come down

December 27, 2018
The people who walk in darkness will see a great light: those who live in a dark land, the light will shine on them. - ISAIAH 9:2

Now comes the hard part: taking down the decorations and unraveling the lights after a festive season. But it also may be hard on your emotional heart.

For some, the world seems darker without the Christmas lights. But in God’s plan, the light is for those in darkness. In fact, the deeper the darkness the brighter the light.

A friend on a night flight from Tokyo to Los Angeles kept peeking out the window of the dark cabin, trying to spot the Pacific. Suddenly, he saw a sliver of orange and yellow brightness split the darkness between sky and sea. Dawn is coming!

My friend said his heart was so full of beauty and hope it was all he could do to keep from running up and down the aisles of the jumbo jet, shouting to the sleeping passengers, “Arise, shine; for your light has come!” Post-Christmas isn’t the sagging-heart season, but the time to shout that the Light of the world has come!

TODAY’S FOCUS
If your heart is feeling the blahs, mediate on the words in Isaiah and the fact that the deeper the darkness the brighter the light.
