No secrets

September 15, 2018
If we had forgotten the name of our God or extended our hands to a strange god, would not God find this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart.
Psalms 44:20-21

God, Who opens the heart, also knows it’s every secret. During World War Two, the Allies worked hard to unravel the codes used by the Germans. The British established a code-breaking center 50 miles from London, and succeeded in solving the Nazi secret communication.

Human beings attempt to conceal idolatries and other sins in a dark chamber of the heart. Achan defied the ban on the spoils of Jericho, and tried to hide his thievery. Ananias and Sapphira attempted to conceal their holding back of a promised gift. Achan brought defeat to Israel and Ananias and Sapphira’s secrecy led to their own deaths.

God breaks our “codes,” and reads our secret communications. It’s not because He delights in outwitting us or wants to deny us privacy. Rather, God knows the secrets we try to conceal in our hearts will destroy us. He brings them to light, and, in doing so, saves us from ourselves.
