Seeing as God sees

We walk in the flesh. Any debate there? You and I are flesh and blood; we’re protoplasm and water and salt and albumin. In other words, we’re human. But we do not war in the flesh. Our spiritual battles are not fleshly battles. They are fought in another realm. You face a river you cannot cross. A mountain you can’t scale or tunnel through. How do you handle it? If you rely on your own ability, your own power, your own skill, you will most certainly fail. When we war in the flesh, we lose. Our human ingenuity, talent, giftedness, education...will not serve us well as weapons in spiritual warfare. We need something else. Something other-worldly.

The apostle Paul says that the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh. Many of us operate as if they were. When the bottom falls out of life, our first impulse is to say “What can I do? How can I work this out? What solution can I bring to bear on this dilemma?” But that is not how battles are won against the fortresses, the strongholds that we wage war against.

If you are in prison today in your soul, if you are depressed, broken, confused or disturbed, no amount of skill or determination will set you free. Don’t battle in the flesh. Battle in the Spirit. Pray. When we pray, we begin to see things as God sees them. And when we gain His perspective, the victory is as good as won.
