The crown of creation

July 09, 2019
"What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor!" - PSALM 8:4-5

Walt Whitman wrote a poem in which he expressed the desire to live among the animals. He thought the contentment, ignorance and simplicity of their existence was appealing. We live in a culture that devalues human beings, reducing them to animals at the “top of the food chain.” The Bible, however, establishes man in his proper place – as the crown of God’s creation, made in His image to have dominion in this world, including over the animals. Walt Whitman could write poems about animals all day long, but no animal could ever write a poem about him. Man is far above all earthly creatures and just a little lower than the heavenly beings. Yes, God is mindful of us because we are of great worth to Him. He paid an extreme price for us.
