“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the boundless greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might …” - Ephesians 1:18-19
Our outlook determines our outcome. For example, Abraham looked up at the stars, recalling God’s covenant promise to him. He became the friend of God. Lot fixed his gaze on Sodom and its promise of riches and pleasure. He became a friend of the world. When Sodom was destroyed, Lot lost everything, while by faith Abraham inherited an eternal city in the heavens, made by God. Two different outlooks – two different outcomes. Abraham had an enlightened outlook. Lot had a dim one.
How is your outlook? Like Lot’s, is it dimly fixed on the world with its empty promises and pleasures? Or is it like Abraham’s, enlightened by the Holy Spirit and focused on things above with the fulness of God’s promises? When our outlook is heavenward, our outcome will be the glorious inheritance of life with God in Christ Jesus today and forever.
