From clatter to clatter

October 30, 2018
"Be on guard, that your hearts may not be weighted down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that day will not come on you suddenly like a trap; for it will come upon all those who dwell on the face of all the earth. - LUKE 21:34-35

Peace and quiet are rare in today’s “audio-enhanced” world. From hard rock music shattering the snowy quietness of a Colorado ski run to cell phones ringing, singing, trilling in an elegant restaurant, its noise, noise, noise.

So you seclude yourself in a secret room. But the doors are all open. You shut them, and the outside clatter is silenced. But now there’s more clatter, the internal jangle of your heart’s worries.

The silencing of the external clatter enables you to confront the internal clatter. Maybe it’s because we don’t want to face the internal “music” that we turn up the volume on external music.

Sometimes we try to avoid our worries by dousing our minds with alcohol and drugs. But we must deal with the din in our hearts caused by the worries of life, or we won’t be ready for the day when all our secrets will be laid bare. Turn down the volume so you can hear what’s really going on.

TODAY’S FOCUS
Find some solitude and listen to your heart with God’s guidance.
