How Clean Are Your Hands

Doctors tell us that one way to avoid many of the germs that make us sick is through good hand hygiene. In today’s verse we read that when we draw near to God He will draw near to us. But what is the prerequisite for drawing near to God? We are, first of all, to cleanse our hands. That is the first step in a four-fold cleansing that will keep us from being contaminated by the “germs” in our godless culture. Cleanse your hands, that’s the external part of your life. Then cleanse your hearts, that’s the inside of your life, what we think about, what we watch, what we meditate on. 

The Bible also tells us to cleanse our lips, and to cleanse our minds. When we are cleansed both internally and externally our lives become aligned with God’s will, not our own. We will experience the joy that comes when our minds, our emotions, and our spirits are in harmony with God’s purpose for our lives.
