How to deflate a heart

August 28, 2018
Fathers, do not exasperate your children, that they may not lose heart. - COLOSSIANS 3:21

The best to deflate a motivated heart is to stab it with anger that sparks resentfulness. A friend of mine played on a college football team that was matched in a game against a squad of ex-professional footballers. The old pros battered the college boys, running up a score of 78 to three. The college players started arguing in the huddle because no one wanted to carry the ball.

Finally, as the game entered its final two minutes, the college players staggered to the scrimmage line, got down in their stance, and began singing “Amazing Grace.” They hoped the hulking ex-pros would back off and show them mercy!

If your spouse, kids, employees, associates or friends need to beg you for mercy it’s a sign you are deflating their hearts. When that happens, they are robbed of all motivation, and cast into the hopeless of a bunch of college boys playing hardened NFL warriors. Don’t deflate the hearts of the people you ought to be pumping up with encouragement!

TODAY’S FOCUS
Ask the Lord to give you the wisdom and discernment to be an encourager, not an exasperator.
