Two eaglets fell from their high-perched nest and were taken in by a family of turkeys. They began eating turkey food, because when you’re hungry you’ll eat anything available. The eaglets also started behaving like turkeys, conforming to those who accepted them, just like humans. One day one of the eagles saw a great bird flying high. The eagle’s heart stirred.
“I wish I could do that!”
“No you don’t!” The mother turkey gobbled back. “That’s a buzzard!” The eagle, confused, wandered away into the forest, and leaned against a tree.
“Whooo are you?” asked an owl.
“A turkey,” answered the eaglet.
“A turkey? Who told you that? You’re an eagle, the king of birds!” Soon the eagle was soaring far above the turkeys—and the buzzards.
Jesus Christ came to show us who we really are. When our hearts hear the Gospel, we want to fly. When we receive Him, we discover our identity as children of the Most High — were eagles! Don’t forget who you are.
