“Are not the Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be clean?”2 Kings 5:12
Those words almost blocked a miracle of healing and kept Naaman from entering into a relationship with the Lord. We are like that too. God has told us how to become clean, but we prefer to wash in substitute rivers of our own choosing. We prefer something new, something exotic, something modern, rather than going to wash where all common sinners have washed.
Listen, we cannot escape that muddy old river of the Gospel. Only there can repentance, forgiveness and restoration be found. What God is saying to you and to me today is, “Come, wash, and be clean.”
