"He presented another parable to them, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field; and this is smaller than all other seeds, but when it is full grown, it is larger than the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.'"Matthew 13:31-32
When I was young, I read the biography of the African-American scientist, George Washington Carver. Dr. Carver took a peanut and held it up to God and prayed, “Lord, here is a peanut. I know a little about it, but I want you to teach me EVERYTHING about it.” What a contribution he made, discovering hundreds of different uses for the peanut. In the process he discovered the importance of crop rotation, which revolutionized agriculture in the south. Carver was faithful in the small things – exhaustive studies of the tiny peanut – which led to even greater things for agriculture worldwide.
What’s the bottom line? No matter how small or insignificant it may seem, when we faithfully use what God has given us, He will use it to revolutionize our lives and make a difference in His Kingdom!
