Power of Love
/
"Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come forth from God and was going back to God, got up from supper, and laid aside His garments; and taking a towel, He girded Himself. Then He poured water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded."
John 13:3-5

Our passage tells us that Jesus understood He had all power and all authority – all the things God has. What did He do with that power? It’s safe to say that Jesus handled power differently than we do. We grasp for power and use it against others to advance our own self-absorbed agendas. But not Jesus. His power was characterized by sacrifice and service as seen in our scripture when He washed His disciples’ feet.

Not only did Jesus lay aside His garments to serve, He also laid down His power to save, for soon after this occasion, Jesus would die on the Cross. There we witness the power of love in action, the most powerful thing in the world. The bottom line: God, through Christ, loved you and me all the way to the Cross, and will love us all the way to Heaven.
