“Thank You”
… in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. - 1 THESSALONIANS 5:18
It was a thrill each time one of our grandchildren learned to say, “tank oo!” Some dropped the “h,” but they were still eloquent to our ears. God’s heart takes pleasure in the gratitude of our hearts, not because God is petty and needs us to thank Him constantly, but because of what it does for us.
A reason we were happy to hear the gratitude of our grandchildren was because we knew it revealed an attitude shaping in them, essential for their well-being. The grateful person is a positive person, and a positive person is healthy. Grateful people are also receiving folks. Everything good thing we have is the gift of God. (JAMES 1:17) The grateful heart is humble and the humble heart is willing to receive God’s gifts.
The real test of a grateful heart is when you don’t feel thankful. Learn to say “Thank you, Lord” when things aren’t going the way you want. The Bible doesn’t say, “feel thankful,” but give thanks.”
TODAY’S FOCUS
Thank God for things for which you feel gratitude. Then thank Him by faith for that which you don’t yet have the feeling of gratefulness.
