The Joy of Gratitude

Years ago, I had the opportunity to visit Switzerland. It is a beautiful country. The snow-brightened Alps reflecting in lakes like mirrors provide a celebration of beauty for the eye. One morning a woman, who was a professing atheist, checked into a hotel at the foot of the Alps. When she entered her room, she opened the window and gasped. The view was absolutely breathtaking! Then the lonely realization hit her – she had no one to thank for the beauty and grandeur of the moment. Those who are without faith have no one to thank. They miss the joy of gratitude – the ability to say, “Thank you.”

Those of us in Christ, however, know exactly whom to thank for the beauty and grandeur we behold. So let’s make sure we thank God for being there –always present – someone we can thank and express the joy of gratitude.
