"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls, and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it … "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” - MATTHEW 13:45-46; MATTHEW 6:33
Sunrise: Pearl-seeking time. The gem merchant has one passion, one pursuit, one goal for his day, finding the perfect pearl. All other concerns turn to ash in the fire of that objective. Finding the perfect pearl, he doesn’t negotiate. He wants it at any price. Sunrises are followed inevitably by sunsets. The sunset is the test of true value. Only the sunset reveals whether the sunrise pursuits were worth it.
Jesus promises that if our sunrise quest is God’s Kingdom, we arrive at the sunset of life recognizing we have the pearl of great price—and all else we needed along the way.
