The primacy of the obedient heart
Samuel said, "Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams. - 1 SAMUEL 15:22
When it comes to the Bible, begin with an obedient heart and then you will have an understanding heart.
A man studied a complex blueprint. The squiggly lines were too much for him to understand, so he zeroed in on the smallest component, and followed that small portion of the blueprint. Then he moved on to another tiny portion of the job, following the design meticulously. At last he stood back, and observed his work. He had constructed an entire section of the building, and now he could see the whole and understand the blueprint.
Often when people listen to a sermon, hear teaching or read the Bible personally, they fret because the principles don’t seem clear to their mind. But the spirit understands what the soul cannot grasp.
As you walk in the spirit, doing what it instinctively knows to be right through God’s Spirit speaking in the word, your mind slowly awakens to knowledge. Obedience precedes understanding.
