Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.
-James 1:21
A teen was asked what he thought of when he considered his parents. “A big mouth,” he replied. “What would you like to see?” the youngster was asked. “Big ears,” he answered.
The Bible speaks directly of the “eyes of your heart,” in Ephesians 1:18. And, though the term is not used directly, it also suggests our hearts need “big ears.” The reason is that the heart is where God’s Word needs to be heard so thoroughly it is sown into the very fabric.
The soul is the core of our self-awareness, our thinking, feeling and deciding. It is the arena of spiritual growth, which begins in the regenerated spirit. Paul prayed that God’s people would be “filled to all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:19) Sanctification, growth, leads toward this fullness, and happens in the soul, the inner heart.
The human spirit receives the initial seed of God’s Word, but the roots must extend into the soul, and the fruit will be manifest through the body!
TODAY’S HEART FOCUS
Pray for the Lord to give your heart “big ears,” a deep hunger for His Word, and clarity of hearing it in the core of your being.
