The Smooth Heart

And day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved. - ACTS 2:46-47
Some people have a “country road” heart, layered pebbles and potholes. Then there are “honey” hearts, sweet but grainy with beeswax.
The sincere heart is a smooth heart: no pebbles, no potholes, no flecks of beeswax. In popular culture, if a person is sincere about what he or she does, morality matters little. By this standard, even Hitler would be judged right because of the “sincerity” with which he killed all those people.
True sincerity of heart is unrippled, trustworthy as a well-paved road or well-refined honey. Such a heart has “gladness.” Literally, in the Greek language of Acts 2:46, it “jumps for joy.” Allow the Holy Spirit to smooth out your heart, and you will be glad He did.
