Watching sheep sleep
“But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.’” - Luke 2:10-11
“Fear not.” Why? Why should we not fear? The angel said it is because “I bring you good tidings; I bring you good news of great joy which shall be to all the people…”
Imagine those shepherds in the field. Life for them could not have been very exciting – watching sheep sleep while they stayed awake to protect the sheep from predators. But on this particular night, they received the astonishing announcement, “Fear not…For unto you is born this day a Savior!”
The world is out of step with God. We need a Savior who can rescue us, who can save us, and who can get us back on track. A Savior is born! The shepherds recognized and worshiped Him. And, today, those who continue to recognize, receive and worship Him have nothing to fear – either in this world…or the next.
