When God Cheers

May 23, 2018
For the LORD takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the afflicted ones with salvation.  -Psalm 149:4

If you know God as Father, you have the capacity to bring Him delight!

I remember baskets my sons made when they were playing basketball. I can also recall A’s they made on report cards. I am emotionally involved with my boys, and I delight in cheering them on.

In fact, many children succeed because they hear the hoorahs of their parents, encouraging them. So God sees your heart seeking to beat for Him, and He roots for you!

When the Psalmist writes that God will “beautify the afflicted” it means literally He will “polish” them. Imagine a loving parent getting a child ready for the big game. Though there’s a fast pace ahead, every hair must be in place, grime must be wiped away, stains erased from the jersey. Then, in the stands, the parent beams over the gleaming child and hoots and hollers for every score the kid makes.

The parents will cheer for other kids on their child’s team, but not the way they will for their own children. So God delights in the “kids” who love Him as Father, and He cheers us on to victory.

TODAY’S HEART FOCUS
Consider where you are in life right now, and the situations you face. Meditate on the fact that God is cheering you on if you are His child, and seeking to live for Him.
