When God Got On The Floor
"Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men."Philippians 2:5-7
Let’s say there was an astronomer who spent all his time thinking about space. He understands what it takes for light to reach the Earth from the nearest star, and he knows how to deal with all kinds of astronomical calculations.
This astronomer also has a 3-year-old son. At Christmas, he gets down on the floor with his son, and they talk about Santa Claus, the decorations, and the presents under the tree.
Does this astronomer lose his stature as a scholar and scientist because he got on the floor with a child? I don’t think so. I don’t think a dad stands any taller than when he is willing to get on the floor with his child.
In a sense, that is what God did on that very first Christmas. By sending Jesus, God “got on the floor” with us where He could teach us, lead us, and show us how to live. And He has promised to continue to walk with us today if we will follow Him.
