Wilderness Days
"Now when Pharaoh had let the people go, God did not lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines, even though it was near; for He said, 'The people might change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt.' Hence God led the people around by the way of the wilderness to the Red Sea."Exodus 13:17-18
A little girl was walking through the grocery store with her mother. As she looked at the various food items, one caught her eye. She grabbed it and held it up. “Mommy, mommy, let’s get this!” The mother looked at the item and said, “Oh no, no, no! You have to cook that!” We want instant everything, but in life there are no shortcuts. When God delivered the Israelites from Egypt to lead them to the Promised Land, the most direct route would have been a journey of ten days, but His way took 40 years! That’s because God knew it would take time and preparation for His people to go from being slaves to being free. God takes us through the wilderness, too. He knows it takes time and preparation to go from the bondage of sin to freedom. So cherish your wilderness time with Him. It’s how we all grow and mature in our faith, and it’s worth the journey.
